Let the number be x. According to the question, the square root of a number plus two is the same number.

Therefore,

x^{1/2 }+ 2 = x

As the square root is present on one side and one side linear, therefore take square root one side and square it.

To remove the square root, square both sides,

(x^{(1/2)})^{2} = (x – 2)^{2}

x = x^{2} + 4 – 4 × x (by using (a-b)^{2} = (a^{2} + b^{2} – (2 × a × b))

Simplifying,

x^{2} – 5 × x + 4 = 0

As it is a quadratic equation, we will finds its roots

x^{2 }– 4 × x – x + 4 = 0

x × (x – 4) -1 × (x – 4 ) = 0

(x-4) × (x-1) = 0

x – 4 = 0 which gives x = 4

and x – 1 = 0 which gives x = 1 .

Squared the equation, check both values of x by putting it in our equation to see whether it is correct or not .

By putting x = 4 in the equation,
